7. Arabs continue to be victimized as Israel milks America's tragedy for its own good

Rime Allaf - Sep 2001
Daily Star Lebanon

Every appropriate word has already been used to describe Sept. 11, not only by writers, but by an abundance of grieving and angry people who wrote to the editors of every newspaper around the world. For all the letters and articles venting the most profound sentiments, probably none even begin to do justice to the sickening feelings of horror, fear and rage felt by the international community....

6. Israel's claim to monopoly on suffering is wearing thin

Rime Allaf - Sep 2001
Daily Star Lebanon

Where in the world does one have to be in order to be indignant at Israel’s routine treatment of Palestinians (documented daily on every TV channel) and not raise a storm? Scandinavia is certainly not far enough. When Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja dared to opine last week that Israel’s intent was to “suppress, humiliate, subdue and impoverish the Palestinians”...

5. Israeli propaganda 'virus' infects Western journalism

Rime Allaf - Aug 2001
Daily Star Lebanon

There is a peculiar virus making the rounds in the media world lately. Not unlike Code Red, or the I Love You virus, it apparently has the power to erase from your memory basic terms which should be embedded in your brain, and it has been known to particularly affect the Western journalists covering the Middle East....

4. Arab world stays silent in face of Israel's flag flying over its dignity

Rime Allaf - Aug 2001
Daily Star Lebanon

Waving their batons from the safe height of horses’ backs, hitting whatever arms, shoulders and backs they could reach, Israeli mounted police officers were breaking into a crowd of frustrated Palestinians demonstrating against the Jewish state’s takeover of Orient House in Jerusalem....

3. America and Europe toe Israel's line

Rime Allaf - Nov 2000
Daily Star Lebanon

Everyone’s nerves are frayed two months into the current insurrection in Palestine, and strange slips of the tongue have been heard. Imagine, just the other day, Yasser Arafat publicly asked Palestinians to stop firing when we all know he surely meant to ask Israelis to stop shooting. Right?...

2. Arabs need to bite back in the Big Apple

Rime Allaf - Nov 2000
Daily Star Lebanon

This is no time for levity, but I can’t help thinking that there must be some truth to Frank Sinatra’s crooning. Hillary Clinton and Rick Lazio have apparently been listening to New York, New York, and they must really believe that if they can make it there, they’ll make it anywhere....

1. Dear President Clinton: Arabs are angry!

Rime Allaf - Oct 2000
Daily Star Lebanon

Dear President Clinton:

I recently read a piece by Thomas Friedman which would have been funny had it not been so pathetically biased. It was a supposed memo from you to Yasser Arafat, and I have no doubt that Friedman was well-placed to impersonate you, perfectly presenting each and every one of your positions on Middle East matters....
